iParadigms' management team has extensive experience in education, high technology and publishing with organizations such as Microsoft, Business Objects, Cengage (Thompson Publishing), CNET and 3Com.
CHAIRMAN & CEO
Chris Caren joined iParadigms in 2009 as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. His career has focused on software businesses and he comes from a family of scientists and educators — a background which helped draw him to iParadigms. Chris previously worked for Microsoft Corporation as General Manager of Microsoft Business Solutions and Office Business Applications. His previous experience includes vice president of products and marketing at Business Objects (now part of SAP), product marketing at Manugistics Group Inc., head of sales and marketing at an Oracle financial applications company, and a leadership position at Accenture. He holds an MBA with distinction from Kellogg Business School and a bachelor of science in engineering from Stanford University.
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Sally Elliott is an academic publishing veteran and information technology executive with long time experience in building higher education and lifelong learning business ventures. Prior to joining iParadigms, Ms. Elliott was the President of True Outcomes (a Cengage Learning company) from 2005 to 2007 and CEO of Aplia Inc., a content delivery and services company focused on providing economic content to the higher education community from 2001 to 2005. Ms. Elliott served as the VP of Product Development at Pensare, Inc., a start up company focused on web-based tools for corporate executive and management education and training from 1998 to 2001, responsible for all areas of product concept and development. From 1976 to 1997, Ms. Elliott was a leader in the academic publishing community notably: Senior Editor at MacMillan Publishing (1981-1983) and President at Benjamin/Cummings Publishing (1989-1996) and President, Consumer Publishing Group at Addison Wesley Longman (1997). Ms. Elliott also served as a Board Director for Addison Wesley Longman from 1994 to 1997.
Ms. Elliott manages the Turnitin Sales, Business Development and Marketing units of iParadigms.
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
George Mazzotta is Chief Financial Officer of iParadigms, LLC. Prior to joining iParadigms in March 2010, George was CFO of CNET Networks, where he successfully led the company through a federal stock option investigation and a subsequent change in senior management. He rebuilt the Finance and Technology organizations and established critical planning and reporting processes to support business growth.
Prior to CNET, George served at Gap, Inc. as COO of the International Division, where he led the Gap brand transformation from a centralized organization to an in-market operation, and launched the Banana Republic brand in Japan. While at Gap, Inc., he also served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Finance, leading the strategic and financial planning efforts for all brands and channels, and as CFO of the Banana Republic division, where he was instrumental in launching the on-line channels for Banana Republic, Old Navy and Gap brands. Before joining Gap, Inc., George held a variety of finance and operating roles at Target Corporation.
He earned an MBA and a Bachelors of Business Administration in Finance and Economics from Western Michigan University.
CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER, CO-FOUNDER
Dr. Christian Storm is one of the founding members of iParadigms and has served as iParadigms Chief Technology Officer (CTO) since the inception of the company in 1994. Dr. Storm came to iParadigms as a graduate student in Biophysics at the University of California, Berkeley. He has focused on the creation of novel similarity searchalgorithms, architecting internet crawler technology, and search systems which span heterogeneous databases.
Dr. Storm received his doctorate in Biophysics from the University of California, Berkeley. His work at Berkeley began with analyzing the stability of biologically inspired pattern recognition systems, which utilize nonlinear dynamics as their information-processing medium. From this research he developed a nonlinear systems identification methodology that can track nonlinear switching events in near real time. He authored a paper ("Detection and Classification of Nonlinear Switching Events," Phys Rev E Vol. 66, 2002) on the application of this methodology to breaking hyperchaotic key shifting codes used in secure communications. Using this methodology he also demonstrated that epileptic seizures can be anticipated in advance of seizure onset by 15 or more minutes in a large fraction of seizures. Prior to his doctoral work at Berkeley he was a member of the weather-sensing group at MIT Lincoln Labs.
VICE PRESIDENT, SALES & CUSTOMER CARE
Joining iParadigms, LLC in September of 2008, Liz brings over 20 years of experience in building and managing sales and marketing teams and driving growth in start-up, turnaround, and established company environments. Her background includes extensive experience in the education, and technology industries where she held a variety of executive positions in sales, marketing, and management. Liz was Director of Marketing at ABC-CLIO, Director of Technology Sales and Marketing at Cengage Learning, Manager of Technology Sales at Addison Wesley/Benjamin Cummings, and National Sales Manager for Education at Macmillan Computer Publishing. Prior experience also includes positions in sales and management at Borland and Prentice Hall.
Liz manages the North America Sales and Customer Care teams at iParadigms.
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, INTERNATIONAL SALES AND PRODUCT MANAGEMENT
Formerly the CEO of nLearning Ltd, long standing reseller of Turnitin, Will joined iParadigms in October 2010 when nLearning Ltd was acquired by iParadigms LLC. As Vice President of International Sales, Will manages iParadigms UK office and international reseller network.
Will has over ten years experience within the academic University sector, working both as a principle lecturer in Computing & Informatics and running an e-Learning services department for a large UK University. He established nLearning Ltd in 2002 as a University start-up founded by academics and business people with a simple objective: to provide a new level support and customer care based on his knowledge of running critical academic services. Will worked closely with a range of UK education and regulatory bodies (JISC, HEA and Ofqual) and his team have secured nearly 100% of UK universities as Turnitin customers as well as developing significant adoption in Europe. Will’s team also established the world’s largest international conference on plagiarism showcasing best practices to a worldwide audience (www.plagiarismconference.org). As iParadigms most successful reseller Will’s team are now working on taking their experience and expertise and transferring it to resellers worldwide becoming iParadigms International support and sales centre based in UK.
VICE PRESIDENT OF ENGINEERING
Christopher Minson is the Vice President of Engineering at iParadigms. He brings over 20 years of experience building and leading organizations in Silicon Valley. Most recently, Minson was the founder and principal of Ezimba, a mobile image processing application for iPhone and Android that counts over 300,000 users worldwide. Previous to Ezimba, Minson co-founded Baynote, a leading recommendations engine for eCommerce and Enterprise markets. Before Baynote, Minson was Vice President of Engineering for Interwoven which he helped to take public in 2000. Minson began his career in engineering roles for Microvertics, 3Com and Momenta. He received his BA in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
VICE PRESIDENT OF PRODUCT MANAGEMENT
Steve Golik joined iParadigms in 2009, bringing 12 years of experience in aligning software initiatives with business objectives to iParadigms' suite of products. In a variety of management and product development roles, Steve has envisioned, planned and delivered high-profile interactive web and reporting solutions across a variety of sectors, for companies like Genentech, Adobe, JetBlue, Toyota, Hilton, and Merck.
Steve holds a Master's degree from the University of California, San Diego and a Bachelor's from the University of California, Berkeley. He taught briefly at the University of San Diego and at the high school level, and does his best to factor those challenging experiences into the development process for iParadigms' products.
VICE PRESIDENT OF OPERATIONS
Will Lowe joined iParadigms in December of 2009 to lead the Operations team, bringing more than a decade of experience building and operating highly-scaled Internet properties. Will has held leadership positions in both Engineering and Operations organizations at numerous Bay Area technology companies, most recently as Director of Infrastructure at Streetline where he helped design, deploy, and operate thousands of on-street parking sensors and wireless sensor networks. Previously Will worked as a consultant to early-stage startups after leading technology teams at a large Internet advertising firm.
He holds degrees in Computer Science and Music from the University of Delaware.
VICE PRESIDENT OF MARKETING
Chris Harrick joined iParadigms as Vice President of Marketing in December 2010. Chris previously served as Vice President of Marketing at SugarCRM, where as an early employee he helped grow the company from a start-up to a leader in the CRM market. During his time at SugarCRM, Chris oversaw marketing communications, public relations, demand generation, product marketing, events and the company's commercial web sites. He also helped the company expand internationally to both Europe and Asia. Prior to SugarCRM, Chris held a variety of product marketing roles at Siebel Systems. Chris began his career at Mainspring, an Internet consultancy that was acquired by IBM. He holds an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley and a bachelor's degree from Boston College.
